After much speculation and debate, 5G technology might be set to enter Nepal. The frequency determined by the National Frequency Management Forum has been approved by the Nepal Telecommunications Authority and the service might resume soon in the near future.
A spokesperson for the Nepal Telecommunications Authority, has said that a proposal has been presented to the National Radio Frequency Policy Determination Committee for the approval of 5G frequency so determined. According to him, the frequencies – 700, 900, 2300 and 2600 megahertz (MHz) bands under the low band; 3300, 3400, 3600 and 4100 MHz under the medium band, and 26 gigahertz band under the high band – have been included.
Nepal Telecom will be starting a Feasibility Study of the 5G technology in Kathmandu, Pokhara, Biratnagar & Birgunj for the initial phase.
