Nepal Government approves emergency use of Covishield vaccine for Covid-19 patients which is being manufactured by the Serum Institute of India (SII) and developed by AstraZeneca, a BioPharmeceutical Company.
The decision for the usage of the vaccine was taken by the Department of Drug Administration (DDA). The announcement follows a meeting between Nepal’s foreign minister Pradeep Kumar Gyawali and India’s foreign minister S. Jaishankar where “close cooperation” on the pandemic was discussed.
“It is to notify to all concerned that the conditional permission has been granted for emergency use authorisation of Covishield vaccines against COVID-19 in Nepal as per the departmental decision dated 15TH Jan 2021.” – DDA
Nepal has been looking for atleast 12 million doses of Covid-19 vaccine and is planning to provide it first to health workers, frontline workers and people above the age of 60. As of Friday, Nepal has 266,816 Covid-19 cases and 1,948 deaths reported.
