Miss Universe Nepal 2020 Anshika Sharma walked in the national costume for Nepal representing its Himalayas in the 69th Miss Universe pageant’s National Costume show. She represented Nepal and walked gracefully in the outfit on the Miss Universe stage. As all the pageants represented elements from their home countries, Anshika’s outfit was not overlooked as she made her way to the stage donning the beautiful outfit inspired by mountaineering suits complete with an oxygen mask that is used to climb Mount Everest and the other Himalayas.
As she made her way to the front of the stage, there was a surprise waiting as she turned her staff which reveal a model of Mount Everest. Her outfit was followed with cheers from the audience.
The outfit is inspired by the tall mountains of Nepal and the brave mountaineers who climb these mountains. The dress is titled, “Ode to Mountaineers” and was conceptualized by Anshika herself.
The outfit was created by fashion designer Bina Ghale. It includes many elements of Nepal and its cultural handicrafts. The outer outfit is created using white, pure self print brocade silk fabric which is traditionally used in making the Tibetan dress, Bakhu. The jewels encrusted in the oxygen mask, gloves, belt and staff are inspired from Sherpa tradition and the ornaments from Newari Buddhist metal work. The prayer flag “wings” provide a pop of colour for the mostly white outfit.
Ghale quoted on her Instagram page that “You can actually climb mountains wearing this suit.“
The final event of the 69th Miss Universe 2020 will be held on 16th May, 2021.
