    As we just bid farewell to 2017 and start fresh for a fresh new year of 2018, lets look back at some highlights of 2017 and see how it all went in a nutshell!

    1) Loss Of The Legendary Yama Buddha

     

    One of the greatest losses to start off 2017 was Yama Buddha’s demise.Rapper Adhikari, 29, was found hanging in his bathroom on January 14. Adhikari’s body was brought to the Capital City by the flight.Twenty-nine-year-old Adhikari had been found dead in his residence in northern London on January 14. According to family sources, the singer was found dead in his bathroom at around 3 am.

    2) Five Nepalis Made It To Forbes Under 30 Asia List

     

    Keeping Nepal parallel with the international arena were these 5 young entrepreneurs- Prabhat Yadav, Aashish Acharya, Sabin Bhandari, Ravi Kumar Nepal and Surya Karki of Nepal who made their way to the Forbes Asia 30 under 30 2017. Prabhat Yadav made it to the list in “Media, Marketing & Advertising” category, Surya Karki and Ravi Kumar Nepal in “Social Entrepreneurs” category whereas Aashish Acharya and Sabin Bhandari were selected in “Retail & E-commerce” category.

    3) Nepali Woman Scales Everest With Anti-Trafficking Message

     

    She believed if she raised a slogan from the world’s highest peak she would be heard. Her message: ‘Fight Against Human Trafficking’. Kanchhi Maya Tamang, a trafficking survivor, summited Mt Everest with the message on Saturday, becoming the first to climb the world’s highest peak for women empowerment and gender equality, according to UN Women Nepal. She is also the first Tamang woman from Nepal to scale the 8,848-metre peak.

    4) Nikita Chandak Crowned Miss Nepal 2017

     

    Nikita Chandak has won the title of Miss Nepal-2017 as she surpassed other 18 contestants at the beauty pageant grand finale held in Kathmandu. Rojina Shrestha won the title of Miss Nepal Earth 2017 while Niti Shah bagged the title of Miss Nepal International 2017, and the new title of Miss Nepal Asia Pacific International 2017 went to Sahara Basnet. A total of 19 ladies accross the nation were selected for the final race in the competition.

    5) Kathmandu Ranks 5th In Pollution Index 2017

     

    Nepal’s capital city Kathmandu has ranked 5th in Pollution Index 2017 mid-year with 96.57 pollution index. According to the Department of Environment of Nepal, the particulate matter (PM 2.5) of Ratnapark is 107 µg/m³ marking Kathmandu as one of the unhealthy cities to live in.

    6) Buddha Lama Declared Nepal Idol 2017

     

    Buddha Lama from Pokhara has won the Nepal Idol Grand Finale, becoming the winner of Nepal Idol. Nepal Idol winner Buddha beat Nishan Bhattarai and Pratap Das. Nepal Idol winner Buddha Lama took away a Mahindra KUV100, 20 lakhs Nepali rupees, and 15 lakhs worth album and contract. The runner-up, Nishan, received 15 lakhs and the third winner, Pratap, got 10 lakhs respectively.

    7) Fire engulfs 40 Houses In Balkhu Settlement

     

    At least 40 houses were destroyed when a massive fire broke out in a squatter settlement in front of the fruits market at Balkhu in Kathmandu on Saturday night. The inferno started from the house of Man Bahadur BK. According to police, the fire started from an oil lamp and soon spread to other houses. The belongings of 40 houses were reduced to ashes while three people have been reported injured.

    8) Elections 2017

     

    Seventy-eight percent of CPN-UML candidates and 58 percent of CPN (Maoist Center) candidates have won the recently concluded parliamentary and provincial assembly elections across the country.

    9) Marshmello No Show In Ktm – Event Cancellation & Club Fell Victim To Audience’s Rage!

     

    Fans and audience were outraged and indulged in vandalism when the emcee announced in the wee hours of Thursday saying that International artiste Marshmello was unable to perform due to health reasons. According to one of the proprietors of Club Deja Vu, while no serious injuries were sustained, the club premises bore the brunt of the ire, with damages estimated at about Rs 10 million.

    10) Nepali Model Sabita Karki Became The Runner Up At India’s Next Top Model Season 3

     

    A two month long reality program India’s Next Top Model wrapped up on 16th December as Riya Subodh enthroned the seat. Sabita Karki from Kathmandu emerged as first runner-up while Shweta Raj from Pune completed the competition as second runner-up. The challenges were ripped off each week, where contestants passed on the hurdles and owned their best photographic genes.
