    Jazzmandu – Kathmandu Jazz Festival 2023: A Week of Musical Bliss

    Prepare for a week filled with sensational jazz performances at the 19th edition of Jazzmandu, the Kathmandu Jazz Festival 2023! It’s an event that promises to light up your life with the melodious magic of jazz. The festival, with the theme “Music for Unity, Peace, and Compassion,” will grace the beautiful city of Kathmandu from November 2 to November 8.

    Free Concert for School Children

    The festival started on a high note with the heartwarming “Concert for School Children” at St. Xavier’s School on Thursday, November 2, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Please note that entry for this event is by invitation only.

    Grooving at Upstairs

    Later on the same day, the excitement continued with the “Grooving at Upstairs” event at Jazz Upstairs, Lazimpat, from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Tickets for this fantastic evening are priced at Nrs 900, and gates open at 6:30 p.m. Here, Cadenza Collective gathered both new and old friends for an explosive jam at Kathmandu’s most storied jazz club.

    Valley Jams

    The musical journey will continue on Friday, November 3. Transitioning into the weekend, you will have the opportunity to enjoy “Live Music” at various venues for just Nrs 700. These electrifying performances took place at Jazz Upstairs, Lazimpat; Electric Pagoda, Thamel; Evoke, Jhamsikhel, and EDN, Sanepa. This diverse lineup featured musicians from the USA, Australia, the Netherlands, France, Switzerland, South Africa, and Nepal. Notably, gates open at 6:30 p.m. and close at 7:00 p.m.

    Jazz Bazaar

    On Saturday, November 4, the “Jazz Bazaar” at Gokarna Forest Resort from 3:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. will offer a day and night of incredible music under the open sky, surrounded by lush greenery.

    Tickets for this unforgettable experience are priced at Nrs 1500. Plus, you can catch a free shuttle bus to Gokarna, departing every hour from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. from outside Hotel Marco Polo in Kamal Pokhari, with stops for pick-ups outside the Hyatt Regency gate in Boudha.

    Return shuttles will be available between 10 pm and 11 pm, with drop-offs at Boudha and Kamal Pokhari. Although seats are limited and not guaranteed, attendees can cycle to Jazz Bazaar and receive a Rs.500 discount on a ticket.

    Sounds Of Latin Jazz

    For theater and dance enthusiasts, “Typical Ofrenda: Sounds Of Latin Jazz” at Mulchowk, Baber Mahal Revisited on Monday, November 6, from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm, is a classy evening of exploring the rich tradition of Brazilian music in jazz, with tickets priced at Nrs 1800. Gates open at 6:00 p.m. and close at 8:00 p.m.

    Masterclasses

    On Tuesday, November 7, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., music lovers will have the opportunity to attend free masterclasses at The Music Room, Bhatbhateni, and Yalamaya Kendra, Patan Dhoka.

    Later that evening, “Jazz At Patan” at Yalamaya Kendra, Patan Dhoka, from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., is a fusion of Nepali classical music with jazz, creating a magical night in the old city of Patan.

    The event’s tickets cost Nrs 1800, and the gates open at 6:30 p.m., with seating request by 6:45 p.m.

    Jazzmandu Finale

    Finally, don’t miss the grand finale of Jazzmandu 2023 on Wednesday, November 8, from 5:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., at Hotel Yak & Yeti, Durbar Marg. Priced at Nrs 1500, this event is your chance to witness the full festival lineup coming together for one last jam to close out Jazzmandu 2023. Gates open at 4:30 p.m. and close at 8:00 p.m.
